This course is aimed at students who have already followed a 3-year course at university level in informatics. By following six-months of theoretical teaching and completing a six-month work placement, you can earn a bachelor’s degree in this area. Avans University of Applied Sciences will help you to find a room and a work placement. The whole course is offered in English.

The course is part of the Avans Information Technology study programme at the School of ICT and Business in Breda.

In this course, students concentrate on the Software Engineering minor. Students are taught the following subjects:

The programme in short
The course offered in English will be Software Engineering as a specialisation. Subjects include Enterprise Analysis, Enterprise Resource Planning, Web Application, Disclosure of Information Systems, Service Management, Dutch language and Projects. These subjects will be taught in two and a half terms, 26 weeks in total. After this you will finish with a final project over 20 weeks.

Prior knowledge

You are expected to have sufficient prior knowledge of the English language. You should be able to follow theoretical and practical lectures in English. You should be able to communicate orally and in writing. During your stay in the Netherlands you should learn to understand simple information given in Dutch. Our institution works with a didactical model based on students using their own initiative and competences. This means that, in short, you are responsible for your own acquisition of knowledge and you must be capable of integrating your acquired knowledge in competent behaviour. In informatics you should have the level of about three years of our regular bachelor’s degree course. Specifically:

• You must have a working knowledge of modern means of communication: internet, intranet, e-mail, search engines, thin clients etc.
• You must be able to produce applications that interact with hardware interfaces on the one hand and a database on the other hand.
• You must be able to produce applications in languages such as Java, with or without the use of a database system.
• We expect you to be familiar with linear systems development.
• You must be able to work with interactive methods such as Rapid Application Development and overall methods such as DSDM.
• You must have a sufficient insight into the ICT sector to use practise and theory in information analyses.
• You must be able to plan an ICT implementation project, perform it, choose ERP instruments, and produce designs for processes, administrative organisation and information.

When you have succesfully finished the Software Engineering programme a Master of Information Technology is offered at Avans+ University of Applied Sciences.
