Advanced Chemistry prepares students for a career in applied sciences. The content focuses on organic and analytical chemistry, which is applied in fields such as forensics, life sciences, the chemical industry, food and pharmaceutical product development.

The course covers subjects in the fields of chromatography, electrophoresis, mass spectrometry, structure elucidation, chemometrics and organic chemistry.

The subjects are taken from the Eurocurriculum II for analytical chemistry, developed by the FECS (Federation of European Chemical Societies) Division of Analytical Chemistry. They are presented in the form of courses, practical assignments, workshops and projects.

Research projects are part of the programme and are performed using modern and sophisticated analytical equipment, GC, HPLC and LC-MS. A number of our lecturers are active in the forensic field or are active members of the KNCV (Royal Dutch Chemical Society).

During the programme, students carry out a 6-month work placement and a 6-month final project at an international research institute or company.
