Your study buddy is there for you
If you have just arrived in the Netherlands, you could probably use some help. Avans University of Applied Sciences can provide this help. We arrange study buddies: students at Avans University of Applied Sciences who support newcomers from other countries.

Cultural differences
Every country has its own customs, traditions and systems. For instance, public transport in the Netherlands works differently to the system in your country. But there are more differences. If you have just arrived in the Netherlands, it is not always easy to find your way around, for example, to find out how to enrol on your study programme, or how to register for accommodation, examinations, sports clubs and other leisure activities.

Feel at ease
This is why we have introduced the study buddy system. Every foreign student is assigned a buddy. A study buddy is a student at Avans University of Applied Sciences who is familiar with Dutch culture, who knows his or her way around Avans and who is also interested in your country. He or she will help you with banking matters, accompany you on your first shopping trip, show you around the school building and help you to arrange internet access, to name just a few examples. And what is just as important: your study buddy will make sure that you soon feel at home by going out together, cooking together or taking part in sports activities together. You and your study buddy can decide together what you want to do.

The study buddy’s main aim is to make sure you feel at home, as this is essential to ensuring that you are able to successfully take part in education and become an independent professional. As a newcomer it’s nice to have the support of your buddy, particularly during the initial period. So you are never on your own. Isn’t that just great?!
